Today’s post is a different sort of post. Today I’m announcing a new, and refreshed look to my website. Since I first started this site 3 years ago, it’s always been a work in progress with updates made along the way. The last logo I used (and the associated color scheme) I rolled out about a year and a half ago.

My old logo, first released in July 2017.

While I loved that logo and what it symbolized, I was never quite happy with it. Fast forward to today, and here is the most recent version of my personal logo.

Ian Keir Logo

My new, and updated personal logo.

I’m really excited to share this with you all and I’d like to tell you a little bit about why I chose this particular design.

Logo Explanation

I love hiking, and have always been drawn to the look of the old metal hiking markers that marked the trails.

These had a very classic look that had withstood the test of time. This is what led me to the circular shape and the green color (both of which were used from old Adirondack trail markers) used in this logo.

You’ll also notice that there is a stack of rocks in the middle. These rocks form a cairn.

Cairns are used on hiking trails to mark where the trail continues and when there is a key junction, which direction to go. Cairns have been used since pre-historic times up through the present day.

The cairn reminds me of why I’m in the business of marketing. It’s my goal guide you on your marketing journey and to help you create meaningful experiences for your customers. That’s all that marketing really is. It’s those meaningful, not shady, experiences that build trust and most importantly, will build your business.

There is another meaning in the cairn as well. I come from a long line of stone masons who built structures of all sizes. Each of those stones, by itself, cannot hold up a building, or make a building any more beautiful. But, when you put all of those stones together, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Those stones lean on one another and create a grander, stronger structure than if they had been left in their original state.

So it is online as well. Marketing is not separate activities that you do. Holistic, integrated, and most importantly, ethical marketing, is the whole of all of your activities and not just the individual pieces, and I’m here to help guide you on that journey.

Next Steps

I will be continuing to update and incrementally make changes to the site, so keep coming back to see these changes. I will also be continuing to add new blog content, so stay tuned for the next post. What do you think of the new logo and new colors? Let me know in the comments below!
